The task of delivering, preparing and erecting the monument came at no cost to taxpayers - thanks to a donation of time, material and professional talent by a team of public and private sector volunteers. This group's single and cohesive goal was to assure that the courage and sacrifice of those killed would never be forgotten. It is a goal they have achieved, and one that we pledge to proudly maintain.

NEVER FORGET!

The acts of war committed against the United States on Sep. 11, 2001 have caused great pain and suffering for New Yorkers and people throughout our nation and the world. These types of acts will not be accepted by us. Terrorists may be able to destroy the foundations of our greatest buildings, but they can never topple America.

In The Beginning

Bill Richmond began transforming this barren weed patch on Camelback Road in Pleasant Hill for each person who suffered in all the Sept.11, 2001 attacks.

Est. 05/03/02

Nothing official about it,  just a spontaneous expression, equal parts sorrow and hope. A former Marine's tribute to all those who suffered.

It Evolved Slowly

Once a forgotten weed patch, this place has blossomed into the Twin Towers Memorial Park, an organic burst of patriotism in an unexpected place.

The park idea came to him as he considered that vacant lot, where he and a few neighbors feed feral cats who roam the creekbed. He checked with the city, and learned the land is set aside for watershed. Go for it, they told him.

One man's vibrant statement that life goes on.

Proclamation

in the City of Pleasant Hill, honoring a resident whose dedication and efforts have made a difference in our community and nation that will continue to commemorate September 11, 2001.

Dated: October 21, 2002

With his own ideas, energy, funds and donations from the generous assistance of his neighbors and Andre's Aquarium Club, Bill  Richmond has built and maintained a 400-foot memorial garden that was once a patch of weeds, but now is full of wildflowers and small trees on a plot of land located on Camelback Road.

This "Labor of Love" has been maintained and named by him "Twin Towers Memorial Park," a place that will long be remembered as a garden in memory of those who suffered in the terrorism attacks on 9/11/01.

With the generous assistance of all citizens, we know this will be a beautiful meditation area, and a lasting tribute to all of the victims of this catastrophic event in our nation's history. Every dollar can make a difference, thank you.
